Board Member
Michèle Bergmann qualified as a veterinarian from the College of Veterinary Medicine of the LMU (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universitaet) Munich in Germany in 2009. She obtained her Dr. med. vet. at the LMU Small Animal Clinic (formerly: Clinic of Small Animal Medicine) in 2011. At the same clinic, during her work as an Assistant and Clinical Instructor, she completed her habilitation (German PhD) studies on vaccination in cats and dogs in 2022 and subsequently started working as an Assistant Professor (Privatdozentin). Since then, she pursues an academic research and teaching career at the LMU Small Animal Clinic in Munich.
Her main research interests are in small animal clinical infectiology with a focus amongst others on prevention and immunity on feline infections.
Her most significant scientific contributions have investigated the immune response against feline viral infections and the benefit of regular re-vaccinations in both, healthy animals and those with diseases predisposing for immunosuppression, the quality of different antibody tests to determine necessity of revaccinations, as well as owners´ vaccination compliance. Her research findings have implications for improving feline welfare.
Michèle is a member of the Veterinary Committee on Vaccination “Impfkommission Veterinärmedizin” (StIKo Vet), a panel that is responsible for updating vaccination guidelines for cats and dogs in Germany. Since 2025, she is also a member of the European Advisory Board for Cat Diseases (ABCD).
